Why is rooftop solar a smart choice for Ahmedabad homes?

Ahmedabad is perfect for solar power because it receives lots of sunlight all year round. Rooftop solar is a wise and economical option for city homeowners because of government subsidies and huge energy savings.

How much roof space do I need per kW of solar panels?

On average, you need about 80 to 100 square feet of shadow-free roof space for every 1 kW of solar panels.

Can rooftop solar significantly reduce electricity bills?

Yes, rooftop solar can cut your electricity bills by up to 80% or more, depending on your system size, usage, and local sunlight conditions.

Is net metering available in Ahmedabad?

Yes, net metering is available in Ahmedabad (and all of Gujarat) under the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission’s rules. Residential rooftops between 1 kW and 10 kW can use net metering, meaning any surplus power is fed into the grid and credited at the retail rate. Systems above 10 kW use gross metering, where exports are bought at a fixed tariff. Gujarat does not impose banking charges for residential solar users.

How long does the subsidy take to be credited?

Subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar scheme are generally processed and credited within 15–21 days of system commissioning and claim submission, although installment can take up to 30 days in some cases . The government is working to speed this up to 7 days in the near future .

What maintenance do rooftop solar panels require?

Rooftop solar panels need minimal maintenance—mainly cleaning dust and debris every 15–30 days to ensure optimal performance. It’s also good to check wiring and connections once or twice a year.

What is the lifespan of rooftop solar panels?

Rooftop solar panels typically last 25 to 30 years, with many continuing to produce power even beyond that, though at slightly reduced efficiency.
